Medical Students from Hasanuddin University (Indonesia) Participate in Training at School of Medicine and University Hospital at University of Toyama
From January 13 to February 6, 2026, five medical students from Hasanuddin University (UNHAS) in Indonesia
visited the University of Toyama (UT) to participate in an exchange program. Since signing a university-level
academic exchange agreement in 2002, the two universities have continued to engage in educational and research
exchanges for over 20 years. This program marks the third implementation, following last year and this year’s summer programs.
The students received training across a wide range of disciplines, from basic medical sciences to clinical medicine.
In addition to their training at our university hospital, they visited medical institutions in Toyama Prefecture,
gaining valuable firsthand insight into the practice of community-based healthcare in Japan.
On the first day of the program, an orientation session was conducted by Professor Ito, Chair of
the Internationalization Promotion Committee and Associate Dean of the School of Medicine, followed by a guided campus tour.
Throughout the training period, the students not only interacted with our medical students but also visited several cultural
and historical sites within Toyama Prefecture, including the UNESCO World Heritage Site Gokayama, the National Treasure Zuiryuji
Temple in Takaoka, and the Toyama Municipal Folkcraft Village, thereby deepening their understanding of the region’s cultural heritage.
On February 5, a farewell party was held, during which the students reflected on their experiences and shared the knowledge they had gained
as well as the outcomes of their academic and cultural exchanges.
A closing ceremony was held on February 6, marking the final day of the program. The students presented the outcomes
of their learning and interactions at UT during their stay.
Through this program, the academic partnership between UT and UNHAS has been further strengthened, and future developments in international collaboration are highly anticipated.
